Supercharged Superheroes: How to Bring Your Research to Life

  • University of Canterbury, Staff Club 87 Ilam Rd Christchurch, Canterbury, 8041 New Zealand (map)

Presented by Yinnon Dolev and Olivia Burge, multi-award winning science communicators and senior PhD Candidates, Biological Sciences, UC

Join Olivia and Yinnon to learn how to bring your research to life without creating Frankenstein’s monster. As a presenter, you have the power to turn your audience into superheroes for your cause, or alternatively, if they think you are wasting their time, a pack of marauding zombies looking for escape from the room.

Whether you are pitching your idea to your team or presenting cutting edge research at an international conference, presentations matter. Learn how to develop the right story for your audience to zap them in to life.

Olivia will cover developing the ‘story’ of your research, how to pitch that story for any audience, and how to make your visual props (the slides) support the most important part of the talk – you!

Following on, Yinnon will show you how to maximise your effectiveness as a presenter and capture your audience, from calming your nerves to where to stand, and what to do when technology or words, fail you.

We all have to give presentations at one time or another, this is your chance to learn how to be effective in communicating in future and creating superheroes for your ideas.
