We’re very excited about this year’s online conference on the theme: Beyond COVID-19
This year, the SCANZ conference will be run as a series of online events over two weeks, followed by a National Networking Night for meeting people face-to-face afterwards.
We'll explore what worked well (or not so well) in Aotearoa's COVID-19 communications - but we'll also have plenty of sessions for those who want to hone their science storytelling knowledge and skills without thinking too much about the pandemic!
Highlights include:
Hearing from Siouxsie Wiles and Toby Morris about their inspirational series of illustrated COVID-19 explanations.
A workshop on purposeful storytelling by TEDxWellington licensee and speaker coach DK.
Mātauranga Māori and science communication with Te Pūtahi iwi radio pilot programme, a weekly show that shares Māori perspectives on science research to make it useful for haukāinga.
A behind the scenes 'tour' of the highly effective Unite Against COVID-19 campaign by one of the campaign creators.

Code of conduct
Harassment and hostile behaviour is not welcome at SCANZ.
If a participant engages in harassing behaviour - whether intentional or unintentional - event organizers or their designees may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expulsion from the event, or contacting a higher authority such as a representative from the offender’s institution.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the local event staff, event organizers, any member of the SCANZ team or executive committee. Please be assured that if you approach us, your concerns will be kept in strict confidence, and we will consult with you on any actions taken.
We expect participants to follow the code of conduct at all conferences, meeting-related social events, workshops, community gatherings, and online communication channels.
